So I saw a monk for the first time and honestly felt compelled to talk to him. From his cross and pendant I figured he was a catholic monk. But I was curious about a few things that they believe and wanted to know why. A respectful challenge to his belief.
1. Why do they pray to Mary
2. Why do they hold her in high regard
3. Then where is scripture does it say we are to pry or hold her in any regard.
4. When they teach why to they teach to pray to her instead of praying directly to Yahuah/Yahusha and where in scripture are we commanded to do such things.
5. Why do you use God and Jesus? Where did this name come from and if you go back to original text, in its original language it was not that.
6. If original text clearly uses his proper name why deviate from that, don’t you feel this would be offensive to him? Don’t you think he would want HIS name to be used? Don’t you think he would want us to call on him, pray to him using his actual name?
7. I got him to admit the close relationship between Christianity and Catholicism and therefore asked him doesn’t that seem like a high jacking of the faith? Because his covenant was not with either of them therefore shouldn’t you teach to understand the people who he had a covenant with and the laws they were commanded to obey? Shouldn’t we do the same ?
8. Why do they not spend time teaching the Old Testament and following his laws and commanded.
9. Why do they celebrate these pagan holidays? The spend 7 days celebrating Christmas and Easter. Why? Where are we commanded to do this?
9. Why do their catacombs contradict scripture and why does it place the church as the foremost authority? There is only one authority and we are to take all things directly to our creator.
Not sure if this was right of me and I did it in love but I was honestly driven to engage him.
End result was he could not show or explain any of this to me, he felt the name didn’t matter because it goes to the same place. (I was like WHAT!! It doesn’t matter?) they pray to mary because she takes it to him. I asked then why not just pray directly to him then? All things should be brought to his feet.
He recommended a book (Seven story mountain by Thomas Merton) and handed me some pendent. Of which made it to the trash. I will not bring such things on my home. But I guess I walked away feeling sad that soo many just can’t see through the lies. I felt his heart was in the right place in that he was sincere in his belief, even haded me his card to their monastery. But he didn’t even seem to question anything I asked when he couldn’t being it back to scripture.
Anyhow, just felt like sharing my experience. I don’t have anyone to share or bounce my experiences with so thought I’d share it here
