Don't just see the false IDOL ... see also the FALSE ALTAR.
Indeed it is a graven image being WORSHIPED which is forbidden but even WITHOUT the IDOL ... they are kneeling at "an Altar" which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 did NOT ordain.
Just because they remove the IDOL ... doesn't mean the ALTAR is not also DEFILED and defiles all who "come unto" the ALTAR made in defiance to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 commands.
